Review – Shade and the Skinwalkers by Marilyn Peake @marilynpeake
Shade and the Skinwalkers - Marilyn Peake

Shade and The Skinwalkers by Marilyn Peake is filled with so much goodness and I fell in love with the ghost whisperer, Shade.

Check out this gorgeous cover by Deranged Doctor Design.

Shade And The Skinwalkers (The Shade Series #2)

Amazon  /  Goodreads

MY REVIEW

I love Marilyn Peake’s stories, so when I went to the mailbox and found Shade and The Skinwalkers, I could hardly wait to begin reading. I love young adult paranormal and supernatural stories and Marilyn never lets me down.

Shade’s first night in her new home in a trailer park in New Mexico, she meets Kai, who will become her new best friend. They both have special abilities and they will need them.

Shade is very familiar with ghosts…so what comes next?

Her other best friend Misty is still missing (from the first book, Shade) and she can’t let it go. Now, she has a new one mystery to solve, a serial killer who must be stopped.

Shapeshifters good. Skinwalkers bad. We have kidnapping, human trafficking, sex slavery, murder, ghosts, Native American culture, mysticism…so much going on that I was never left wanting for something else to happen, some new threat to raise its evil and ugly head.

We hop from fantasy to reality and back again.

I love flawed characters, struggling through life, trying to do the right thing. It is so much fun watching them grow into the people they are meant to be.

Shade has an awesome group of friends and a new bestie. I can hardly wait to see how that plays out, as they head off to college. The characters are amazing and lovable, and Shade’s mom…well don’t want to spoil anything…So I will be looking for more adventure in the next book of the series.

The Witchling Seer (The Skinwalkers' Witchling #3) by B. Kristin McMichael
The Witchling Seer (Skinwalkers Witchling Book 3) - B. Kristin McMichael

Kristin McMichael’s THE WITCHLING SEER takes place following book 2, THE WENDIGO WITCHLING.  Cassie Booth now has two mates, Nate and Jared, causing a volatile truce between the skinwalkers and wendigo.  There is ongoing conspiracy, while Cassie tries to find a solution for continued peace. This paranormal fantasy is suitable for young adults.

  1. Kristin McMichael continues doing a great job developing her characters. Cassie is still new to the supernatural world and learning as she goes on, especially where her visions are concerned. She and her very different mates used to be best friends as children but all that changed eight years prior when Jared was forced to turn to a wendigo and Cassie’s memory was stolen.  I respect Cassie’s drive and concern for others.  Despite Nate’s and Jared’s differences, they are both very protective of Cassie.  Jared is sweet and selfless.  Nate is strong and a good leader.

I liked the ties to B. Kristin McMichael’s other trilogies: Blue Eyes and Day Human.  While you can understand the Skinwalkers' Witchling series without reading those trilogies, I found that some of the incidences probably had a lot more meaning for me having read those books.  I love that Turner Winter once again makes an appearance in this series, in addition to, Arianna Grace, from the Blue Eyes Trilogy.  Ariana plays a significant role in the novel. I’m a huge fan of Devin and was happy he made an appearance.

I enjoyed the plot.  There is a lot of treachery, and I was never really sure where the story is going to go.   We find out some interesting things about Cassie’s parents.  There were unexpected twists. The story was fast-paced and kept me enthralled.  Some heartbreaking things happened.  The story had a great ending that felt well resolved.  I will look forward to Whitney’s story to be release in 2017.

The Wendigo Witchling by B. Kristin McMichael

The Wendigo Witchling
B. Kristin McMichael
(The Skinwalkers’ Witchling #2)
Published by: Lexia Press
Publication date: June 7th 2016
Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult

Cassie is part of it now. Turns out, she may not want to join the coven, but that’s exactly what she did when she bonded herself to Nate. Rather than face the ordeal of joining the clan, Cassie finds it’s time for a road trip with her best friend, Whitney.

The road trip was to get away, maybe learn a bit more about night humans—it wasn’t to find a deep dark secret hidden in Whitney’s past, one that may hit a little closer to home than Cassie wants to admit. With their road trip cut short, it is time to confront everyone about the lies that had been their lives, but Cassie soon finds out home isn’t exactly how she left it.

Where have all the witches gone?

She’s the only witch left in town when they return. Soon she is dragged into more than she bargained for and she has to make choices that will change everything. She’s finally given a choice: does she want to be a skinwalkers witch or a wendigo witch? Too bad there are more secrets than answers.

Without all the facts, can she really choose her life’s direction? Time isn’t on her side as she has to make a choice. Now she just hopes it’s the right one.

EXCERPT:

The boy glanced down. “Entry denied,” he read out on the machine.

“Denied?” Cassie asked in disbelief.

“You’re not just a day human,” the boy replied, pointing to the scanner which had just tried to eat Cassie’s hand. “Anyone who is part of a ruling family must seek permission to visit before coming so that the proper welcome can be made.”

“I’m not part of any ruling family,” Cassie replied. What is he talking about?

“Ugh,” Whitney groaned. “You’re Than’s mate and thus part of the ruling family. I didn’t think about that. I figured your family or mine had called ahead of us and wanted us home. They didn’t, but this …” Whitney shook her head like she should have guessed as much.

Cassie groaned, too. Their road trip was being cut short. She just wanted to get away, and now that was being foiled by Nate, and he wasn’t even there.

“Well, technically, she isn’t part of the family yet. She has yet to complete all the bonding rituals and right now is still under her own family,” Whitney added, batting her eyes and using her movie star looks to try to win over the guy.

“Completely true,” Cassie added, trying her best to imitate her friend and her “pretty please” face.

The guy glanced first at Cassie, and then at Whitney. He gave in. “I need to verify this with my boss,” he said before he turned and walked away.

The Wendigo Witchling (The Skinwalkers' Witchling #2) by B. Kristin McMichael
The Wendigo Witchling (Skinwalkers Witchling Book 2) - B. Kristin McMichael
  1. Kristin McMichael’s The Wendigo Witchling is an incredible addition to The Skinwalkers' Witchling Series. The book takes place following book one, The Witchling Apprentice. Cassandra Booth is newly bond to Skinwalker, Nathaniel Bay.  They discovered that the coven wants to drain her power at the upcoming ceremony. She goes on a road trip with her friend, Whitney to avoid the ceremony.  Upon their return, she needs to make a choice to become a skinwalkers witch or a wendigo witch.  This paranormal fantasy is suitable for young adults.

I loved The Wendigo Witchling. It was full of non-stop action from beginning to end.  So many unexpected things took place that it kept me spellbound.  I appreciated that references were made to the previous book and to some events that took place in the Day Human Trilogy.  I’m hoping that the comments the seer made on the girls’ road trip means that there will be a couple spin off series for both Turner and Whitney.

I enjoyed learning more about Jared Colley’s character in this novel.  We found out a lot of interesting facts about Jared, Cassie, and Nate in this story.  I also appreciated that we discovered more of the history of the Wendigo.  The plot was clever and well developed.  I love that Cassie is good at thinking while put on the spot and goes with her intuition.  I love how the book ended, and I cannot wait for the third book to be releases to find out what happened next.

Supernatural Chronicles: The Skinwalkers
Supernatural Chronicles: The Skinwalkers... Supernatural Chronicles: The Skinwalkers - Lila Felix I received a copy of this book from the author for a review.
This is the first book in a new series, it was short so there is more story to discover yet.
I love books set in New Orleans, such a magic place. I enjoyed the characters and location and look forward to more in this collection.
