Release Day Review! Stone Heart (The Gargoyle Protectors #1) Ariel Marie!

An unknown entity, an unexplained power source... Earth was in danger.

Gargoyles, a winged humanoid race of warriors, had spent thousands of years ensuring the survival of the planet. Rhodack Gahnoth, leader of Clan Gahnoth, demanded his gargoyles defend the realm against a new threat. Sending his most trusted warrior to investigate the unexplainable, he was left speechless when the warrior returned with a little wisp of a female with golden hair by the name of Rina Smith.

Her powers were the strongest of any being, and something was hunting her down. To make matters worse, she was under a powerful spell, believed herself to be human, and she was Rhodack’s mate.

Once the spell was removed, Rina’s true identity was revealed, and no one was more shocked than her. She would need a crash course in the world of paranormal to bring her up to speed. One thing she didn’t need help with was her attraction to the tall, brooding gargoyle. He didn’t hide the fact he wanted her. Her hesitance was met with his persistence.

What Rhodack wanted, he claimed.

Because of who she was, a war that had no place on Earth would spill into the realm. It would be up to Rhodack and his gargoyles to meet this new enemy head-on. Rhodack vowed to protect Rina, but as fate would have it, she wouldn’t need his protection after all—he would need hers.

This new series sizzles with electricity, red hot loving and thrilling excitement. Rina and Rhodack are strong, vibrant characters with take charge attitudes that grab readers by their eyeballs and demands that reader enjoy their story. The attraction between these two is undeniable but there are a few obstacles in the path of the mating, Rina has no clue about the supernatural world or just who she really is and Rhodack being the head of his clan of Gargoyles has a harem. That may seem like major obstacles but fate has a way of getting around hurdles and which leads to some seriously hot and passionate scenes between Rhodack and Rina and some of those scenes includes much more, but I will leave that up to your imagination or if you really want to know read the book.

Excitement and suspense has readers holding their breaths in anticipation as secrets are revealed, unknown entities breach the portals, and a war that has no place on Earth plunges the Gargoyles right into danger as they try to protect the inhabitants of Earth. With some surprising twists, there’s no way for readers to become bored. The author has created a well-developed world with some unique elements that makes this story one that I couldn’t put down and I am really looking forward to reading the next about the next sexy gargoyle protector.

Early Review! Iron and Magic (The Iron Covenant #1 / Kate Daniels #9.5) Ilona Andrews!
Iron and Magic - Ilona Andrews

No day is ordinary in a world where Technology and Magic compete for supremacy…But no matter which force is winning, in the apocalypse, a sword will always work.

Hugh d’Ambray, Preceptor of the Iron Dogs, Warlord of the Builder of Towers, served only one man. Now his immortal, nearly omnipotent master has cast him aside. Hugh is a shadow of the warrior he was, but when he learns that the Iron Dogs, soldiers who would follow him anywhere, are being hunted down and murdered, he must make a choice: to fade away or to be the leader he was born to be. Hugh knows he must carve a new place for himself and his people, but they have no money, no shelter, and no food, and the necromancers are coming. Fast.

Elara Harper is a creature who should not exist. Her enemies call her Abomination; her people call her White Lady. Tasked with their protection, she's trapped between the magical heavyweights about to collide and plunge the state of Kentucky into a war that humans have no power to stop. Desperate to shield her people and their simple way of life, she would accept help from the devil himself—and Hugh d’Ambray might qualify.

Hugh needs a base, Elara needs soldiers. Both are infamous for betraying their allies, so how can they create a believable alliance to meet the challenge of their enemies?

As the prophet says: “It is better to marry than to burn.”

Hugh and Elara may do both.

I just went on an adventure to another world where technology and magic compete for supremacy and I it was one thrilling ride where I met mesmerizing characters and fought spectacular battles.

Hugh and Elara were the main characters that I met on this journey and they are strong, captivating and easily seized my attention and refused to let go once they had it. This couple were both intriguing and daring with lots of appeal and unique characteristics that made them stand out. As for the relationship between them, well it definitely had some electrifying chemistry and an attraction that had sparks flying everywhere but it was also feisty and full of turmoil as they fought each other tooth and nail throughout the story with snappy dialogue that has me convinced that a happily ever after for these two may be a long time in coming, at least they finally have a sort of acceptance of each other, so I can’t wait to find out how their relationship progresses.

Lots of excitement and thrills keep the adrenaline pumping throughout this fast paced and smooth flowing story with lots of twists and turns that kept me wondering just what would happen next. The bad guys and creatures are as fascinating as they are scary and cause Hugh and Elara a seemingly endless amount trouble so there was definitely no dull moment to be found.

I am a huge fan of the Kate Daniels universe and I can never get enough, so I was quite excited to find out that Hugh was going to have his own story. Iron and Magic is well developed and full of all the fascinating elements and all the wonderful characters and creatures that make up the universe, so is it really any wonder that I was completely enthralled by the first book in The Iron Covenant series and I am eagerly awaiting the next.

Ilona Andrews is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)

Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Oregon with their two children, three dogs and a cat. They have co-authored two series, the bestselling urban fantasy of Kate Daniels and romantic urban fantasy of The Edge

Two Necromancers, an Army of Golems, and a Demon Lord
Two Necromancers, an Army of Golems, and... Two Necromancers, an Army of Golems, and a Demon Lord - L.G. Estrella “I’ll make them pay. Nobody kills my zombies and gets away with it!”

Totally absurd and perfectly logical! Pitted against an army of mutant golems and an evil demon lord is the most unlikely team of heroes: a fire-obsessed elf (to put it mildly), a magic shovel-wielding necromancer with his ninja rats-loving apprentice (wearing pink-rimmed glasses, no less), an old plantsman with a penchant for bonsai trees and uh... a bureaucrat (I don't really need to attach any adjectives to him). Hilarious and nicely written, I liked the first part better and I'm looking forward to the next adventures of this budding group.

“The banjo?” Avraniel snorted. “You play the banjo? Please don’t tell me that you’re one of those mopey necromancers, you know, the ones who sit in darkness all day writing bad songs about how the whole world has gone to hell and how everyone you love has left you.”

gorgeous inside & out
The Last Necromancer - C.J. Archer

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. My stop on the blog tour can be found at Donnie Darko Girl.

Okay, before I begin talking about THE LAST NECROMANCER, here's two facts about me: necromancers are super interesting to me, and I can't resist gorgeous covers. I mean, look at that cover! Isn't it ridiculously fantastic??

I find necromancers to be so intriguing, and the title of the book combined with necromancy combined with the lead character living as a male when really she's female had me dying to read this book. Charlotte, who has gone by Charlie to pretend she's a boy, is a character I loved immediately.

In Victorian London, she's cast out of her father's house (by her own father!!) and is forced to live on the streets. Needless to say, during that period of history, living as a girl would have been extremely dangerous for Charlie. It's dangerous enough as a boy, and she's been basically homeless as a child for five years.

I won't lie - that opening scene was a bit horrifying, but probably not for the reason you might be thinking. It would have been worse if the characters knew Charlie is really a girl. But when she learns about the secret organization, the Ministry of Curiosities, whose members want to use her secret talent, there's no going back for her. She has to make a decision whether she's going to work for the organization or not.

The Ministry operates within the government but also a bit separate from it. The fact that Charlie isn't sure if the Ministry is dangerous or not added intrigue to the novel. I looked forward to finding out how it would be revealed Charlie is in fact the girl they've been searching for. I wanted to know how Lincoln Fitzroy, the one who's been searching for Charlie, would react.

My only issue with THE LAST NECROMANCER was the first third of the novel kind of dragged for me. Don't get me wrong, the opening scene grabbed my attention and pulled me in right away, but after that, it slowed down a bit too much until Charlie learns about the secret organization. But then the story picks back up after that.

Overall, I highly recommend THE LAST NECROMANCER. It's definitely a brilliant read, and you'll love Charlie right away. Plus, necromancy!
