Audio Book Review: Spellbound (Crossbreed #8) By Dannika Dark
Spellbound - Dannika Dark

I adore this series and its characters but I didn't like that this was a novella-length novel. Personally, I would have preferred one bigger book with no cliffhanger than a full novel ending in a cliffhanger and a novella to tie things off.

I loved the glimpse we got into Gem's head in this story! She's such a fun character in all the other books, so it was great to see her in the spotlight. I'm still holding out hope that the characters in Keystone will eventually pair off and maybe get their own stories.

Niko was always an enigma. It was nice to have a light shined into his past. I understand him and his mannerisms better now because of it. I still am holding a grudge for the unnecessary cliffhanger from the last novel though.

Overall, this was a short and inciteful adventure! As much as I liked it I just wanted more after waiting out the cliffhanger for a few months. I hope the next novel is a full-length adventure for the Keystone crew!

The Audio Book:

Nicole Poole did a fantastic job with this narration! Her voice was clear and crisp. The accents and female and male voices were awesome. She's become my favorite narrator in the past few years!

Out of Salem - Hal Schrieve
Out of Salem - Hal Schrieve

I read this as part of Halloween Bingo, so the fact that this book could reasonably be applied to about half the squares is woth mentioning. This is the first book I've read which used the singular nongendered they/their as pronouns, which slowed me down a bit at the beginning. But it worked, and never felt gimmicky. Z. was a plausible fourteen year old zombie who's entire family died in an auto accident: only Z reanimated.

There's werewolves and high school bullying and good teachers and bad teachers and a growing movement in favor of shooting all the monsters. As a metaphor, it is terrifying. But it's also the story of school misfits becoming friends, and of teens solving a mystery, so there is significant fun as well as the terror.

I'm delighted it was recommended to me, and I can't wait to read Shrieve's subsequent books. As good as this debut was the next one should be astounding.

REVIEW BY MERISSA - Spellbound (Magic in Manhattan #1) by Allie Therin
Spellbound (Magic in Manhattan #1) - Allie Therin

@allie_therin, #Urban#Fantasy#MM#Romance, 5 out of 5 (exceptional)

SPELLBOUND is the first book in the Magic in Manhattan series, and I seriously can't wait for book two!

Set in the 1920's, you get a front seat to all that involves--Speakeasy's, prohibition, mobsters, Germans. It's all here, and gives you an insight into what life might have been like.

Rory and Arthur make for a perfect couple! I loved Rory's sass and his spitting alley cat fight. Arthur is the big softie with an even bigger heart, who just wants to help.

With a great cast of characters, this story was gripping from the very start. The pacing is smooth, there were no plot holes I fell through, and the world building is outstanding.

With humour, sass, peril, and betrayal, this book had it all for me. Highly recommended, and when is book two coming out? Absolutely brilliant.

Cover Reveal! Two Witches and a Whiskey (The Guild Codes: Spellbound #3) Annette Marie!

ARE YOU READY FOR IT?

BOOK DETAILS:

Two Witches and a Whiskey
by Annette Marie
(The Guild Codex: Spellbound, #3)
Publication date: February 8th 2019
Genres: New Adult, Urban Fantasy

Synopsis:

Three months ago, I landed a job as a bartender. But not at a bar—at a guild. Yeah, the magic kind.

I’m not a badass mage like my three smokin’ hot best friends. I’m not a sorcerer or an alchemist, or even a wussy witch. I’m just a human, slinging drinks like a pro and keeping my non-magical nose out of mythic business. Seriously, I know my limits.

So why am I currently standing in a black-magic ritual circle across from a fae lord?

Somewhere behind me, my three mage friends are battling for their lives. Somewhere near my feet is the rogue witch I just knocked out with a stolen spell.

And I have about three seconds to convince this very angry sea god not to shmoosh me like a bug.

I’m pretty sure this wasn’t part of the job description.

Annette Marie is the author of Amazon best-selling YA urban fantasy series Steel & Stone, its prequel trilogy Spell Weaver, and romantic fantasy trilogy Red Winter. Her first love is fantasy, but fast-paced adventures and tantalizing forbidden romances are her guilty pleasures. She lives in the frozen winter wasteland of Alberta, Canada (okay, it's not quite that bad) with her husband and their furry minion of darkness—sorry, cat—Caesar. When not writing, she can be found elbow-deep in one art project or another while blissfully ignoring all adult responsibilities.
