The Willpower Instinct by Kelly McGonigal
The Willpower Instinct: How Self-Control Works, Why It Matters, and What You Can Do to Get More of It - Kelly McGonigal Ph.D.

Take my rating with a grain of salt: I’ve read this book, but haven’t really taken the time to put its advice into practice yet.

This book is a useful combination of popular science/psychology and self-help, looking at why our brains work the way they do and how to get better at putting big-picture goals ahead of short-term urges. There’s a fair amount of science and studies in it, explained in an accessible way, along with practical tips and strategies for everyday life.

There’s a lot of useful information here, in terms of both general information about human psychology and things that might help you make positive changes in your own life. And it’s actually enough information to justify a book, not just a magazine article stretched out to book length with lots of anecdotes (there are a few anecdotes sprinkled throughout, but they don’t dominate the pages).

The author suggests reading one chapter per week – the book’s genesis is in a ten-week college course – which I mostly did, but which didn’t ultimately help me much. Some of the topics resonated (like the one about why our brains trick us into turning to counterproductive behaviors like snacking or Internet surfing to relieve stress, even though these are actually among the least effective stress relievers), while others seemed less relevant to my life. Also, the “homework” from the first chapter is to meditate for five minutes every day, which I did not do (yes, yes, everyone recommends meditation to solve all ills, but actually doing it really sucks) and which perhaps set the tone for not doing the rest of the “assignments.”

At any rate, I think this is a good book to read if you want to make changes in your life. With the caveat that you should probably read it when you have the bandwidth to put some time and energy into making those changes, because while simply reading a book can make you more aware of some things, it probably isn’t going to break a bad habit or instill a good one all on its own. I do plan to come back to it at another time.

Also, yes, the author is Professor McGonigal. Har, har.

But will unearthing the truth about Grace's past destroy them both?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The first book in the paranormal romantic suspense series Psychic Crossroads is a thrillingly complicated and fascinating story that holds readers captive until every last world of the story has been told. Grace and David are strong, compelling characters that readers want to get to know as Grace is hunted by a ruthless enemy. The romance of the story is completely mixed in with all of the suspense so it happens at odd times and in a bit of an unconventional way at first but there is no denying the sizzling chemistry and magnetic attraction that burns between Grace and the sexy stranger that appears out of thin air. This story has lots of emotional turmoil that stems from Grace’s loss of memory and the strange situations that has her questioning her sanity which really has readers empathizing with her and wanting to know what happened to her.
This story is set a steady to fast pace and is one of sacrifice, secrets, betrayals, discoveries and several dangerous adversaries and one maniacal foe that is invisible. The suspense and excitement build throughout the story keeping readers on the edge of their seat while Grace searches for the truth while trying to stay alive and out of the hands of the bad guys. The author has created a wonderfully thrilling and suspenseful story that kept me glued to the pages and wanting more.
Why is subconscious mind an Amoeba covered in Mold
Power of Subconsciousness
If subconscious mind is more powerful than conscious  live Consciously?
an  by Nuit
The subconscious  is an integral part of the mind that modern psychologists acknowledge as an invisible layer of human . My research suggests a form of an amoeba rather than a layer, a hermaphrodite, morphed amoeba that in some of its manifestations is covered in mold. I’ll tell you in a minute why…
amoeba subconscious mind covered in mold
The subconscious mind patterns are programmed by repetition, -to-soul contacts and deep emotions. If the emotion is “fear” we run a risk of raising a child that will not properly develop Own-Self but stay in the shadows of the Parents’ Will-Power, or a solder that stays overpowered with his King who consciously or subconsciously wishes him to stay mentally and emotionally weak, so he can kill for his King.
Time is an Invention: “Science of Self-Discipline - The Willpower, Mental Toughness, and Self-Control to Resist Temptation and Achieve Your Goal” by Peter Hollins
The Science of Self-Discipline: The Willpower, Mental Toughness, and Self-Control to Resist Temptation and Achieve Your Goals - Peter Hollins
“Motivation and self-discipline are nice to have. Motivation, however, is often emotional and temporary, while self-discipline can be exhausted. But having solid habits will deliver the same results with far less pain and suffering. Habits have been shown to take around 66 days to form, so all you need to do is commit to small actions (mini habits) for that amount of time.”
In “Science of Self-Discipline - The Willpower, Mental Toughness, and Self-Control to Resist Temptation and Achieve Your Goal” by Peter Hollins
People in this country, Portugal, - and maybe in others too, but I've not really lived elsewhere - work too hard, for too many hours, and retire (in general) too late. Too many of us have accepted the myth, or have had no choice but to accept it, that self-discipline and unremitting effort is good for ourselves, our families, the economy - but as so many of us work in jobs that actually don't matter very much, or at all, that can't be true. If no one worked in PR, or banking, or accountancy, the world would have a problem, but it wouldn't stop spinning on its axis.
Willpower (Psychic Crossroads #1) by Anna Durand
Willpower (Psychic Crossroads #1) - Anna Durand
Willpower is the first in a two-part series called Psychic Crossroads. The reason for the name, of both the book and the series, becomes obvious as you read through. Grace is alone in the world, struggling to make ends meet. Her parents died in a car crash a few months earlier, then her grandfather. To top it off, she can't actually remember the past few months, and has serious migraines to contend with, that no doctor seems to have the answer for. Her life takes a strange turn one evening when she is approached by a 'madman' who warns her that "they are looking for you". This opens a can of worms that she wasn't expecting in the slightest.
I would say that Willpower is definitely more of a thriller than romance, so if that's what you're looking for, you're out of luck. Also, it is a slow-burner so don't expect instantaneous answers. There are lots of different situations and characters to contend with, which can get a bit confusing and skippy at times. This is a good story which comes to a natural ending, whilst still leading on to book two.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and my comments here are my honest opinion. *
