This was an adorable rock adventure with rainbows, unicorns, giants, sun and rain. This is so reminiscent of Steve Burn's Blue's Clues. There was friendship, hard times and lessons learned. This was a fun listen for anyone who likes a nice little fantasy story with some rockin' music thrown in.
Finalmente dopo giorni sono riuscita a concludere la lettura di questo racconto e... mi ritengo delusa...molto delusa. Sarà che questo si colloca dopo il terzo (e al momento migliore) libro della serie, sarà che si colloca dopo un volume pieno di azione e ben sviluppato nella trama e nel rapporto tra i due personaggi, sarà che era difficile emulare il successo del precedente capitolo fatto sta che con questo racconto si ritorna ai livelli "disastrosi" del primo volume. La trama è banale e inconsistente, completamente scollegata dai precedenti romanzi, troviamo Gabe, un povero ragazzo che dopo essere stato trasformato in modo tremendo e traumatico (dopo essere stato aggredito e aver perso la madre) si ritrova costretto ad avere a che fare con Zack, un alpha che con i soliti metodi "dolci" e "rispettosi" nella sua mente da lupetto pensa sia carino è giusto rapire una persona e costringerla con la forza a fare ciò che si vuole senza se e senza ma. È da qui... bentornata sindrome di Stoccolma! C'eri mancata tantissimo. Alle solite si cerca di mostrare il rapporto come sano e sicuro basandosi però su una sottomissione farlocca in quanto i sub/Pet in questi libri difficilmente accettano e vogliono donare la
propria sottomissione (come dovrebbe avvenire in un rapporto Bdsm SANO) ma sono costretti dal Dom/Alpha a forza di minacce di punizioni fisiche e umiliazioni, un punto ahimè dolente della serie e anche presente nei volumi precedenti ma che qui infastidisce ulteriormente vista a mio avviso l'esperienza traumatica di Gabe, troviamo infatti un ragazzo che è stato trasformato con la forza in lupo e che viene plagiato con il "terrore" convincendolo che potrebbe ritrasformarsi e uccidere tutto e tutti se non viene fermato e chi può farlo? Chi può fermalo? Ma ovviamente lui... solo l'alpha buono e giusto può salvarlo della serie "Non vuoi trasformati in lupo e rischiare di uccidere persone innocenti? Bene! Passa al lato oscuro con me! Sottomettiti e in omaggio avrai un collare, dei pantaloni di pelle, la mancanza di dignità e dei biscottini!" e poi dopo l'essere stato costretto con il subdolo inganno viene maltrattato, obbligato a rinunciare alla propria libertà e spesso punito perché "disobbediente" verso un alpha, cosa inaccettabile nel Medioev...ehm... branco e tutto con il tono "Mi dispiace punirti ma lo faccio per amore!!" (A Jamie Lannister piace questo elemento) che è... uno schifo e un insulto al Bdsm, quello VERO!
Tutta la vicenda come se non bastassero i difetti elencanti manca di originalità in quanto il quarto libro è una copia mal riuscita del primo romanzo della serie, Gabe vorrebbe essere una copia di Niki, il ragazzetto che non si fa mettere i piedi in testa da nessuno ma... al contrario di Niki è arrendevole come un budino e Zack... è l'alpha più smielato del globo... dopo essersi comportato come uno stronzo rapitore diventa un cuore di panna, tutto amore e tesorino... quando non usa la cinghia per educare il suo cagnolino da compagnia. Per tutto il racconto abbiamo solo finti escamotage per portare i due tizi a copulare come ricci e... stop... mi rendo conto che questa è una prerogativa della serie ma negli altri due precedenti oltre al sesso c'era una storia di fondo! Nel secondo il bisogno di scoprire come Casey e Rory avrebbero potuto trovare un accordo dopo la morte del fratello dell'alpha avvenuta per colpa del dolce Pet e nel terzo il mega intrigo su Logan e il suo passato, il suo tradimento ecc insomma... pezzi di trama importanti che ti spingevano a leggere fino alla fine qui... meh... troviamo il mistero della madre che però passa in tre paginette in secondo piano della serie "È morta la mia mammina... sigh... l'ha uccisa un lupo grosso e cattivo... sigh" "ah ok... mi dispiace" "si vabbè... scopiamo che è meglio" serio... nessuno se ne frega della morte di quella donna! Nessuno si chiede chi l'abbia uccisa e solo alla fine lo scopriamo e lo scopriamo in un modo ridicolo, dopo l'80 % della storia infatti, alle ultime 20 paginette l'autrice ci butta i colpi di scena! Zack che si sente malissimo a caso, la ricomparsa di Niki e compagni per i vecchi fan, litigio e... boss fight con il cattivo sgamabilissimo da pagina uno che... si conclude in mezza pagina... la battaglia cazzuta neanche viene descritta... dimostrazione di come l'autrice non avesse idee originali dopo aver usato tutte le cartucce per il secondo e il terzo libro... sono delusa perché la storia non aggiunge niente alla serie, i personaggi sono piatti, la sotto trama è inesistente, i colpi di scena sono buttati a caso e tutto si riduce al sesso e al finto Bdsm alla Cristiano Grigio. Unica nota positiva sono le scene erotiche che nel bene e nel male sono scritte bene e possono anche "emozionare" e il ritorno seppur in due pagine dei vecchi personaggi che riescono a farti ricordare che questo libro fa parte di una serie e che forse ci saranno nuove speranze per il futuro. Che dire... lo consiglio? No. Mentre il primo volume presenta la storia e il secondo e il terzo aggiungono elementi alla storia principale questo quarto volume introduce solo due nuovi personaggi e stop francamente non dice neanche chissà cosa di loro quindi almeno a mio avviso si può tranquillamente saltare questo capitolo e passare al quinto direttamente, lo consiglio giusto a chi vuole essere pignolo e leggere ogni singola riga di una serie, se invece non siete così fissati e non vi importa saltare frammenti preferendo leggere i libri che davvero contano... girare pure al largo
2018 habe ich mir vorgenommen, in der Weihnachtszeit endlich mal Weihnachtsbücher zu lesen. Da es mir immer schwerer fällt, Weihnachtsstimmung aufkommen zu lassen, hoffte ich, dass mir weihnachtliche Geschichten dabei helfen könnten. „The Gift“, ein Buch der Bestsellerautorin Cecelia Ahern, war eine naheliegende Wahl, denn es spielt nicht nur in der Weihnachtszeit, sondern befindet sich auch auf der Liste der modernen Klassiker der Bücherkultur-Challenge. Wie praktisch. Cecelia Ahern gehört sonst nicht zu meinen bevorzugten Autor_innen, weil ich sie in die Chic-Lit-Ecke sortiere, aber angesichts dessen, dass ich ihren Erfolgsroman „P.S. Ich liebe dich“ unerwartet gut fand, wollte ich es trotzdem mit „The Gift“ probieren.
Lou Suffern ist ein Überflieger. Er wohnt in einem eindrucksvollen Haus, fährt einen schnittigen Sportwagen und ist äußerst erfolgreich in seinem Beruf. Mit seiner Ehefrau Ruth hat er zwei bildhübsche Kinder. Doch sein rasanter Aufstieg der Karriereleiter fordert Opfer. Täglich kämpft Lou gegen die Uhr, um immer der Erste, der Beste zu sein. Er führt ein Leben auf der Überholspur und vernachlässigt für seine ehrgeizigen Ambitionen seine Familie. Bis er eines Tages kurz vor Weihnachten einem Obdachlosen einen Kaffee spendiert. Der Mann stellt sich als Gabe vor. Seine bemerkenswerte Auffassungsgabe imponiert Lou. Er besorgt ihm einen Job in der Poststelle seiner Firma. Diese Entscheidung beginnt er schnell zu bereuen. Gabe drängt sich nachdrücklich in sein Leben; ständig schaut er Lou über die Schulter, nervt ihn mit kryptischen Ratschlägen und wie gelingt es ihm eigentlich, an zwei Orten gleichzeitig aufzutauchen? Lou fühlt sich von Gabe bedroht. Er missversteht seine Absichten. Aber er wird verstehen. Schon bald. Denn Gabe macht Lou das wichtigste Geschenk überhaupt: Zeit.
Mich versetzte „The Gift“ nicht in Weihnachtsstimmung. Für mich ist dieses Buch von Cecelia Ahern nicht weihnachtlich genug. Zwar behandelt die Autorin darin unmissverständlich das Läuterungsmotiv, das in vielen Weihnachtsgeschichten prominent vertreten ist und verankerte ihre Erzählung in der (Vor-)Weihnachtszeit, doch atmosphärisch klingt die besinnliche Jahreszeit nur selten an. Ich wurde nicht von Gedanken an Plätzchen, Kerzenschein und Nächstenliebe verzaubert. Das klingt negativ, ich empfand es allerdings nicht als hinderlich, weil ich erkannte, dass der Mangel eines weihnachtlichen Ambientes auf den Protagonisten Lou Suffern zurückzuführen ist. Lou ist ein Workaholic. Es ist naheliegend, dass Weihnachten in seiner Wahrnehmung nur eine geringe Rolle spielt und das Buch daher kaum mit festlicher Stimmung dienen kann. Ich hatte anfangs große Schwierigkeiten, mich Lou zu öffnen und eine Bindung zu ihm aufzubauen. Cecelia Ahern beschreibt ihn als gewollt unsympathisch und geht dabei so weit, dass er mich unangenehm an Pat Bateman, den psychopathischen Serienmörder in Bret Easton Ellis‘ Skandalroman „American Psycho“, erinnerte. Deshalb wollte ich ihn erst gar nicht kennenlernen, obwohl ich natürlich wusste, dass er eine Katharsis durchlaufen würde. Lous Sinneswandlung vollzieht sich graduell. Er ist keineswegs von heute auf morgen ein neuer Mensch und fällt bis zum Schluss in alte Verhaltensmuster zurück, was ich sehr realistisch fand. Darin unterscheidet sich „The Gift“ von klassischen Weihnachtsbüchern wie Charles Dickens‘ „Eine Weihnachtsgeschichte“. Weder ist Lou Suffern ein Ebenezer Scrooge, der über Nacht sein weiches Herz entdeckt, noch ist der Auslöser seiner Veränderung, der Obdachlose Gabe, ein Engel oder ein Geist. Tatsächlich erfahren die Leser_innen nicht, wer oder was Gabe ist. Seine wahre Identität bleibt ungeklärt, womit Ahern reichlich Raum zur Interpretation offenlässt. Persönlich sehe ich in Gabe Lous personifiziertes Gewissen, weil sein Einfluss subtil ist. Er wedelt nicht mit dem mahnenden Zeigefinger, sondern stimuliert Lou zur Selbsterkenntnis. Stück für Stück begreift er den Stellenwert von Familie, Wertschätzung, Dankbarkeit und Demut. Grundsätzlich mochte ich diesen Wandel, ich fand jedoch, dass sich „The Gift“ zu sehr auf Lou als Sündenbock fokussierte. Seine familiären Probleme hätten niemals so gravierend werden müssen. Seine Ehefrau Ruth, seine Eltern, seine Geschwister – sie alle hätten intervenieren und ihren Unmut über sein Benehmen längst verbalisieren können. Ich hatte nicht den Eindruck, dass das jemals geschah. Mir schien es eher, als hätten sie ihm nie vermittelt, wie verletzend sie sein Verhalten empfanden. Eine typische Kommunikationsstörung. Erst Gabe verschiebt Lous Perspektive. Dennoch konnte ich Gabe nicht als Wohltäter betrachten, der eine verlorene Seele zurück auf den rechten Weg lenkt, weil mir seine Rolle am durchaus überraschenden Ende des Buches nicht gefiel. Ich wünschte, ich könnte konkret werden, ohne zu spoilern, aber leider ist das nicht möglich, also muss ich es dabei belassen, euch zu berichten, dass ich glaube, hätte sich Gabe bedachter verhalten, wäre Lous Geschichte anders ausgegangen.
„The Gift“ von Cecelia Ahern erinnert an eine moderne Variante von Dickens‘ „Eine Weihnachtsgeschichte“. Die Thematik der Läuterung des Protagonisten Lou Suffern bestimmt die Geschichte, Ahern interpretierte sie allerdings zeitgenössisch und hielt sich mit der Verwendung mystischer Elemente zurück. Sie involvierte Szenen, die unerklärlich und fantastisch anmuten, doch den Roman deshalb als übernatürlich zu bezeichnen, wäre übertrieben. Ich mochte Aherns pragmatische Herangehensweise an Lous Bekehrung und die Botschaft des Buches, laut der Zeit das kostbarste Gut ist, über das Menschen verfügen. Ich fand es nachdenklich und angenehm unaufgeregt. Ich glaube, es ist das unkitschigste Weihnachtsbuch, das ich je gelesen habe und könnte somit sogar Weihnachtsmuffeln gefallen. Schade nur, dass ich den Kitsch offenbar brauche, um in Weihnachtsstimmung zu kommen.

Meine Meinung
Ransom Riggs konnte mich bereits mit “Die Insel der besonderen Kinder”, dem Auftaktband zu seiner Trilogie um die besonderen Kinder, mit seiner ungewöhnlichen Welt insbesondere der außergewöhnlichen Persönlichkeiten gefangen nehmen. “Die Legenden der besonderen Kinder” bietet dem Leser nun eine Sammlung aus zehn unterschiedlichen Sagen aus dieser übernatürlichen Welt. Die besonders schöne und hochwertige Gestaltung des grün und golden schimmernden Buches erinnert sofort an Märchenbuchbände aus älteren Tagen. Der bezaubernde erste Eindruck setzt sich im Inneren mit stimmigen schwarz-weiß Illustrationen von Andrew Davidson fort, welche hervorragend mit den einzelnen Erzählungen abgestimmt sind.
Den zehn folgenden magischen, berührenden und belehrenden Legenden sind einführende Worte von Millard Nullings und ein kleiner Warnhinweis vorangestellt.
In “Die edlen Kannibalen” reist man in der Geschichte bis zu den Ursprüngen der besonderen Kindern zurück, in der sich die Besonderen noch nicht in Zeitschleifen verstecken mussten und ein zurückgezogenes ländliches Leben führten. Bis zu dem Tag, an dem Kannibalen vom Weg abkamen und sich bei den Besonderen wiederfanden.
Die Geschichte “Die Prinzessin mit der gespaltenen Zunge” erinnert sehr an ein typisches Prinzessin sucht Prinzen Märchen. Dabei spielen die Äußerlichkeiten der besonderen Prinzessin eine tragende Rolle. Sie muss mit Zurückweisungen zurecht kommen, wobei ihre Güte und ihr Sinn für Gerechtigkeit keinen Schaden nimmt. Ihre auf den ersten Blick erschreckende Besonderheit wird ihr noch gute Dienste leisten.
Eine meiner Lieblingsgeschichten ist die über “Die erste Ymbryne”, denn hier werden Hintergründe zum Wesen dieser mächtigen Besonderen aufgedeckt und man erfährt auf spannende Weise von der Entstehung der Zeitschleifen.
“Die Geisterfreundin” ist eine sehr emotionale Geschichte bei der ich unglaubliche Gänsehaut bekommen habe. Die Themen Familie, Freundschaft und Tod hat Ransom Riggs mit viel dramaturgischem Geschick zu einer ganz besonderen Geschichte verwoben.
Die bunteste und kreativste Legende dieser Sammlung ist für mich mit Abstand “Cocobolo”. Unter diesem verrückten Titel kann man sich wahrlich nicht sonderlich viel vorstellen oder gar erwarten. Ransom Riggs zielt mit seiner Geschichte über eine besonders starke Verbindung zwischen Vater und Sohn über die Weiten des Ozeans und wie die Liebe zwischen Eltern und Kind Zeit und Entfernung überbrückt. Es liegt so viel Gefühl und vor allem eine große Portion Besonderheit in dieser Geschichte, die mir beim Lesen das Herz öffnete.
Nachdem mir die ersten Geschichten allesamt außergewöhnlich gut gefallen haben, waren “Die Tauben von St. Paul´s” nicht ganz nach meinem Geschmack. Vielleicht liegt das einfach daran, dass ich um diese gurrenden Tierchen am liebsten einen ganz weiten Bogen einschlage. Dennoch ist die Weisheit aus dieser Geschichte, in der verfeindete Parteien einen Kompromiss schließen der beiden Seiten zu einem besseren Leben verhilft, auf den Punkt getroffen.
“Das Mädchen, das Albträume zähmen konnte” hat mir ein schauriges Leseerlebnis bereitet, denn hier geht es um ein kleines Mädchen, dass allen Widerständen zum Trotz den Menschen helfen möchte. Die Gabe Albträume zu entfernen ist wahrlich mächtig und birgt große Risiken, so dass das Mädchen schon bald mit den Konsequenzen aus ihrem Handeln konfrontiert wird.
In der Geschichte über “Die Heuschrecke” steht nicht das Kind mit der besonderen Fähigkeit im Mittelpunkt, sondern der Vater, der auf harte Weise lernt mit der Besonderheit seines Sohnes umzugehen und ihn trotz seiner Andersartigkeit genau so zu lieben wie er ist.
Bei “Der Junge, der Macht über das Meer hatte” steht die mächtige Gabe des besonderen Kindes im Mittelpunkt. Schon seine Mutter warnte den Jungen davor, anderen Menschen von seiner Begabung zu erzählen. Widrige Umstände trieben den Jungen jedoch soweit den Rat seiner Mutter auszuschlagen, um sich und andere Menschen zu retten. Der Dank der Menschen ist aber kein langlebiges Gut und schon bald richteten sie sich mit Wut gegen den Jungen.
Den Abschluss bildet “Die Geschichte von Cuthbert” in der die Wärme von wahrer Freundschaft alles andere überstrahlt.
Die Legenden sind sehr unterschiedlich gehalten und dennoch vereinen sie die wunderbare Sprache und Erzählkunst des Autors in sich. Nach dieser übernatürlichen Lektüre habe ich große Lust bekommen endlich zu den zwei weiteren Bänden aus Ransom Riggs Trilogie zu greifen.
Fazit
Jede Menge mysteriöse, spannende und skurrile Legenden die tief unter die Haut gehen.
