Green Eggs and Ham - Dr. Seuss

Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss is a great book to read during Dr. Seuss week and whenever you just want to pick up a great book. The rhyming and repetition of words is good for students to read or practice reading. This book can give me great ideas to do within the my students. Ideas such as making green eggs and ham or having the students to wear green on the day I read the books to the students.

Fox in Socks - Dr. Seuss

This is a great book full of rhyming words. It has a lot of tongue twisters in it and is very exciting to read. It would be a good resource for students to look back on when doing a rhyming activity or wanted to use creative words when writing something. It is leveled 500 L.

Rhyming Words with "Hop on Pop"
Hop on Pop - Dr. Seuss

This is a very basic book for beginning readers. This book draws young readers in because of its easy, rhyming language. "We hope on Pop. Pop said stop." This sentence is used in the book and can easily be distinguished by beginners because the word combinations are identical and rhyme. These patterns are predictable and is great for the youngest of readers. My daughter, who is almost three, loves this story because these are all words she can say and relate too. These words include mouse, house, all, tall, small, fall, wall, hat, sat, Pat, and many more. This book is leveled a BR on the Lexile Leveling system.

What Pet Should I Get?
What Pet Should I Get? - Dr. Seuss

What Pet Should I Get? is about a little boy and girl who cannot decide what pet to get from the pet store. This book would be cute for a read aloud to grades 1st-4th. Since the book features a lot of different animals as pets, it would be really cute to do a "Create Your Own Pet" creative activity! The students could illustrate and write about his or her perfect pet. It would be so cute to see what the students come up with.

Oh, The Places You'll Go!
Oh, the Places You'll Go! - Dr. Seuss

Oh, the Places You'll Go! is a book about the journey of life. It is very inspiring! This book tells the reader that wherever you go, it will be great. This book would be a good read aloud for grades 1st-5th. For the older grades, students can research a place he or she would like to travel to and why. The students could also do this in groups and create a poster about the place and present to the class. There are many writing prompts that could be generated from this text. Teachers could do a goal setting activity or writing activity in the beginning of the year with this book and bring it back out at the end of the school year to reflect on his or her accomplishments.
